TECHNICAL COMMITTEE REPORTS

Certification: -- Bob McMartin

No further updates or notifications have been received on the certification credentials from National.

Current Status:

Sam Garrell and Steven Witt have apparently passed their GEK and Discipline Exams and their papers have also received a passing grade.  National will complete the certification paperwork soon and send their certificates, pins, etc. for distribution to the candidates.  The Board will make plans for presenting the credentials at a Membership meeting in the near future.

Education: -- Larry Fletcher

1.      The Estimating Academy remains on hold.  Discussions continued about how to draw more people out to attend and more involvement by the Roadrunner Members to warrant going forward with future seminars.

  • It was previously recommended that we develop a presentation of a typical “Bid Day” scenario as a seminar topic to be added to seminar topics discussed in previous BoD meetings. Glynnette updated the board with information from National and their development of a canned presentation on the same subject and the potential support to our chapter they can provide.

2.      Larry’s next round of conducting estimating classes for the Construction Reporter folks is April 5th, 2011.

Membership: -- Pat Arrington, E

Glynnette noted that there were inquiries from guests at our last Membership Meeting about becoming members of the ASPE.  She will let us know if there is any follow up from these guests.

Programs: -- General Board Members

Glynnette pointed out that we have no scheduled speakers for our upcoming April Membership Meeting.  There are also no plans for speakers in the follow-on months as well.  Glynnette asked the Board to focus on ideas for future meeting speakers.  A couple off the cuff ideas discussed were:

  1. Come up with a round-table discussion topic,
  2. Bob will check with Dennis Basile on other topics he may present,
  3. Bob mentioned the possibility of a site tour of the JBH fabrication shops.  Richard will check into this and pointed out that they also have a Clean Room fabrication facility that may be of interest to see.
  4. We should review prior year presentations to see if there are repeat candidates.

The following info from last month’s Meeting Minutes remains current:

·         Richard will check further with Solar Resources as a potential presenter.

·         Other recommended topics recommended to consider were “IBC Code Updates” and “Cap & Trade”.

Industry Awareness: – Bob McMartin

The following info from last month’s Meeting Minutes remains current:

·         Glynnette provided feedback on the attempt to set up an ASPE Booth at the Ultimate Home Show on March 19th & 20th.  After discussions of the extra hidden costs to participate and whether this is the right venue for our ASPE Chapter, the Board decided not to participate.  Glynnette will check about canceling our reservation and receiving our $50 deposit back.
