The American Society of Professional Estimators began in 1956. What started with fewer than 20 members in the Los Angeles area can boast today of thousands of members in chapters from border to border.
The New Mexico Roadrunner Chapter started on November 2, 1983 when sixty-six estimators met in the Acoma Room of the Albuquerque Convention Center in response to Richard Vittilow's letter of invitation to an American Society of Professional Estimator's organizational meeting. Cocktails, hosted by Albuquerque Gravel Products, preceded a welcoming address by Richard Vittalow (Member At Large). Self-introductions were followed by dinner, after which Don Short CPE. (then Rockey Mountain Regional Governor) explained the main objectives of the Society as being educational and promoting ethical practices in the bidding process. With the consent of the majority of those in attendence, Mr. Short then proceeded with the organization of "Roadrunner Chapter # 47.
